The award is given to journalists who have demonstrated fair, accurate and balanced reporting on an issue involving Muslims nationally or internationally.

Educated at the University of the Westof England, and a member of the Bristol branch of the National Union of Journalists, Ms Tamimi is a volunteer at Radio Salaam Shalom – a pioneering online radio station that aims to bring together Bristol’s Jewish and Muslim communities.

The Palestinian poet and journalist of 17 years’ experience will be in London on March 15 for the gala awards night attended by Home Secretary Alan Johnson, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling and Liberal Deomcrat leader Nick Clegg.

The awards are given by The Muslim News newspaper, the largest independent Muslim newspaper in Britain, which in its 17-year history has attempted to share the experiences of Muslims as the community carves out its place in society.
