====SHOW NOTES====

Co-presented by Carolyn and Shagufta, this fortnight’s show includes – yes, you guessed it – food. Now that Eid and Yom Kippur have been and gone, what are the treats that our Jewish and Muslim team are tucking into at this time of year? Listen in as they pick through some tasty morsels in the studio without dropping anything on the CD player…

In a packed hour and then some, you’ll share the following Muslim-Jewish news from our team:

* the Aliph-Aleph SchoolsLinking project recently celebrated its successful end of year with a function at the House of Lords along with Radio Salaam Shalom who spoke to their Programme Manager Rabia Lemahieu.

* Victoria Feltham takes us onstage with a look at Jewish and Muslim theatre and performance, including the music of Avivit, in STAGES.

* Andy Roberts’ ARABESQ parades the sequinned excellence (try and imagine THAT on radio) of the Bellydance Superstars, currently on tour.

* Farooq Siddique’s MUSLIM IN BRISTOL looks at the issue of forced marriages.

* The forthcoming ‘Anne Frank and You‘ exhibition and news of the Albanian Muslims who helped European Jews escape the Nazi terror of Word War Two.

* Libby and Len Traubman’s LIVING ROOM DIALOGUES from the West coast of the USA.

====SHOW NOTES====

The end of September is a festive time for both Muslim and Jewish communities in celebration of the Jewish New Year and marking the end of a month’s fasting for Muslims. In this podcast, Omer and Shereen talk about their experiences of having a film crew follow them around for the month of Ramadhan, the issues surrounding veiling in the UK and its echoes for Jews and Muslims facing persecution because of their faiths, and there’s even the occasional mention of Wales and food. (Well, it IS the season of Eid and Yom Kippur).

Other contributors include:

  • Farooq Siddique’s A MUSLIM IN BRISTOL with a look at the meaning of Sept 11th,
  • DJ Andy Roberts‘ ARABESQ features the new Max Pashm album ‘Never Mind the Balkans’
  • and more from the KICKIN’ IT BACK team, as they go walkabout to ask Bristolians “What comes to mind when you hear the words ‘Jew’ and ‘Muslim’?”
  • we also hear a special holiday message from Salaam Shalom chairman Peter Brill
  • a reading from the Jewish Torah by Rabbi Berry from the Bristol Progressive Synagogue,
  • and listen to the first contribution from the Californian peace advocates Libby and Len Traubman, whose ‘Livingroom Dialogues’ are doing so much for Palestinian-Jewish interaction.

Radio Salaam Shalom would like to wish all our friends around the world EID MUBARAK and SHANA TOVA!
