Wednesday 27 January – Holocaust Memorial Day Civic Commemoration
This will take place at the Old Council House, Corn Street, Bristol, BS1 1JG, from 2pm to 5pm.
This is a free event, although donations are welcome. Members of diverse local communities, including
fellow Bristolians of Pakistani, Somali and Zimbabwean origins, as well as 2nd and 3rd generation
survivors, will share how they have experienced being supported or indeed have supported others in
times of personal survival and duress. During the refreshments break, you will be able to speak with
stallholders from a variety of organisations working with refugees and people traumatised by racism
or war. It will end with performance poetry by Shagufta K and an act of remembrance led by the
Chair of Bristol City of Sanctuary.

lessons from the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides and apply them to the
present day to create a safer, better future. The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2016 is ‘Don’t
Stand By’.
