History of Salaam Shalom
Salaam Shalom began as an online radio station in 2006. The success of the collaboration led to many projects over the years since:
Proud2B and Resistance Projects: working with primary, secondary and sixth form students to explore identity, culture, prejudice and discrimination through dialogue and arts and media production.
Shared Spaces: An exhibition of art works by Muslim and Jewish artists underscoring Muslim and Jewish communities historical contribution to the City. Produced in collaboration with Bristol’s cultural organisations including Bristol Festival of Ideas and the Watershed.
Influencers: Filmed interviews with Muslim, Sikh, and Jewish residents of Bristol who made a significant contribution to their communities – and to the city – recording and exhibiting often untold stories. The material has been lodged at Bristol M Shed and Bristol Archives.
Semites: a verbatim theatre production based on interviews conducted in Israel and Palestine, which ran in London and Bristol and included performance-based workshops for audience, student and community organisations.
With a very small team of dedicated Trustees, Project Managers and Volunteers – backed by local, national and international funders – Salaam Shalom has achieved significant impact by bringing together local communities in Bristol and beyond.

Influencers

A powerful collection of interviews with eight Muslim, one Sikh and four Jewish Influencers. They describe their upbringing and development of a social conscience; recognition of what their community lacked; community initiatives they founded and a future vision for their community and relationships between other Bristol communities.
